Vince McMahon is voluntarily stepping aside from his role as WWE CEO amid an investigation of alleged misconduct, the company announced Friday. Earlier this week, reports surfaced that the longtime leader of the WWE agreed to pay a secret $3 million settlement to a former employee over an alleged affair. Per the WWE, a Special Committee of the Board is conducting an investigation into alleged misconduct by McMahon and WWE Head of Talent Relations John Laurinaitis.

Stephanie McMahon, Vince’s daughter, will serve as interim CEO and interim Chairwoman.

“I have pledged my complete cooperation to the investigation by the Special Committee, and I will do everything possible to support the investigation,” McMahon said in a statement. “I have also pledged to accept the findings and outcome of the investigation, whatever they are.”

In a peculiar twist, Vince McMahon will appear on tonight’s episode of SmackDown, which airs live from 8:00-10:00 p.m. ET on FOX. The now former WWE CEO will reportedly speak tonight “in character as Mr. McMahon” to address his temporary absence.
