It’s been well over a year since Bridgerton Season 2 premiered on Netflix and fans are hungry for more. Sure, the streamer tied us over with the steamy, dreamy Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story in spring 2023, but we want to know what happens next in the main Bridgerton saga. Specifically, we want to watch Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) fall in love with our girl — and the secret savant behind Lady Whistledown — Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan). So how much longer do we have to wait? Is Bridgerton Season 3 coming out in 2023? Is it coming out at all? Is this the end of Bridgerton? Or is there more swooning to come?

Bridgerton is based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling nine-part series, and each book focuses on a different sibling’s love story. Season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton’s (Phoebe Dynevor) steamy fake romance with Simon, the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page), and Season 2 shifted focus towards eldest brother Anthony Bridgerton‘s (Jonathan Bailey) frustrating love triangle between sisters Kate (Simone Ashley) and Edwina Sharma (Charithra Chandran). Bridgerton Season 3 will be the first season to shuffle the order of the novels. Instead of focusing on Book 3’s protagonist, Benedict (Luke Thompson), Bridgerton Season 3 will jump ahead to the fourth book, Romancing Mister Bridgerton.

While we don’t know exactly when Bridgerton Season 3 will premiere, we do know which couple the steamy drama will focus on, who’s joining the cast, and a sense of when it might finally premiere. Here’s everything to know about Season 3 of Bridgerton...

WHAT WILL SEASON 3 OF BRIDGERTON BE ABOUT?

While book readers might have expected Bridgerton Season 3 to focus on Benedict, the second-eldest Bridgerton sibling, and his romance, An Offer from a Gentleman, Shonda Rhimes had other plans. The super producer decided that Bridgerton Season 3 would instead adapt Book 4: Romancing Mister Bridgerton. No, this is not a book about someone falling in love with Reed Hastings, head of Netflix. Instead, it jumps to the main event: Penelope Featherington’s bubbling romance with Colin Bridgerton. Shonda Rhimes originally teased this in an interview with Entertainment Tonight and Nicola Coughlan confirmed it during a 2022 FYSEE panel.

According to the official Netflix synopsis, Penelope has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin and made the decision it’s time to marry. “But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts on the marriage mart fail spectacularly. Meanwhile, Colin has returned from his summer travels with a new look and a serious sense of swagger. But he’s disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder. Eager to win back her friendship, Colin offers to mentor Penelope in the ways of confidence to help her find a husband this season. But when his lessons start working a little too well, Colin must grapple with whether his feelings for Penelope are truly just friendly.”

WHO WILL BE IN THE CAST OF BRIDGERTON SEASON 3?

Because Bridgerton Season 3 is #PolinSeason, we can expect Nicola Coughlan and Luke Newton to take center stage as the show’s main characters, Penelope and Colin. Bridgerton Season 2 stars Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley are also returning as newlyweds Anthony and Kate. However, Season 1 star Phoebe Dynevor confirmed in January 2023 that she “sadly” is not reprising her role as Daphne in Bridgerton Season 3, although unlike her original co-star Regé-Jean Page, she is open to returning to the series.

While the vast majority of the cast will be returning for Bridgerton Season 3, Ruby Stokes will no longer be playing Francesca Bridgerton. Stokes left the hit Netflix show to star in Lockwood & Co. and will be replaced by Anatomy of a Scandal’s Hannah Dodd. Bridgerton fans got their first sneak peek at Dodd in the role when she appeared alongside the rest of the cast in a cheeky video marking the start of filming on the third season.

Of course, Dodd isn’t the only new face we’ll see in Bridgerton Season 3. Also joining the cast are Daniel Francis who is playing Marcus Anderson, “a charismatic presence who lights up any room he enters, attracting the notice of certain matriarchs in the ton — and the ire of others.,” Sam Phillips as Lord Debling, “a genial lord with unusual interests. But with wealth and a noble title to back up his eccentricities, he’ll have no shortage of interest from young ladies this season,” and James Phoon as Harry Dankworth: “what Dankworth lacks in wit and intelligence, he more than makes up for with serious good looks.” Expect all three gentlemen to find themselves in Penelope’s orbit this season.

Also joining the cast? Black Sails star Hannah New, who is playing “firebrand widow,” Lady Tilley Arnold.

WHEN WILL SEASON 3 OF BRIDGERTON BE RELEASED?

Bridgerton Season 3 will be divided into two parts. Bridgerton Season 3 Part One will premiere on Thursday, May 16. Bridgerton Season 3 Part Two will premiere about a month later on Thursday, June 13.
