‘Riverdale’, ‘Nancy Drew’, ‘The Flash’ And More Renewed By The CW

As reliable as Winter turning into Spring, so is The CW network with renewals. Though behind-the-scenes murmurs have concerned a possible sale of the network, fans can calm down because at least for the foreseeable future, most of their favorite shows will be continuing. As just announced by The CW, the network has given an early renewal to seven of their current shows for the 2022-2023 season.

Those shows include:

All American (Season 5), The Flash (Season 9), Kung Fu (Season 3), Nancy Drew (Season 4), Riverdale (Season 7), Superman & Lois (Season 3) and Walker (Season 3).

“As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond,” Mark Pedowitz, Chairman and CEO of The CW Network said in a statement provided to Decider. “These dramas are also important to our overall digital strategy, as they are some of our most-streamed and socially-engaged programming, and we look forward to adding more new and returning series to help strengthen and expand our multiplatform footprint.”

Though it’s not entirely surprising, two of the more interesting renewals are The Flash, and RiverdaleThe Flash reportedly had star Grant Gustin sign a contract worth over $200,000 per episode, but only for 15 episodes over one season. That would bring the superhero series to nine seasons, making it the longest running show in the Arrow-verse.

Meanwhile, Riverdale stars like Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse have recently indicated they expect Season 7 to be their last — or at least a major discussion will need to be had about ending the show. Conversely, when Decider discussed with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa recently, his feeling was that there was still plenty of “gas in the tank.” Regardless, though neither show has announced an end date as of yet, chances are this will still be a large part of the public discussion going forward.

This also leaves a number of show’s fates pending, including 4400, All American: Homecoming, Batwoman, Charmed, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, DC’s Stargirl, Dynasty, In The Dark, Legacies, Naomi, and Roswell, New Mexico. However, decisions on many of these shows, as well as pilots currently in development, will be made closer to the network’s Upfront presentation in May.

The above-mentioned renewed series join previously announced unscripted renewals at The CW including Penn & Teller: Fool Us, Masters of Illusion, and World’s Funniest Animals. Specific premiere dates will be announced later in the year.
