Former ‘The View’ Host Abby Huntsman Slams ABC Show’s “Unbearable Culture”

Former Fox News anchor Abby Huntsman is opening up about her decision to exit The View. She co-hosted the ABC talk show from 2018 to January 2020, and at the time she said she was leaving to help her father, Jon Huntsman Jr., with his Utah gubernatorial campaign. On the first episode of her new podcast I Wish Somebody Told Me, Huntsman admitted that this new role was also “a great out.”

“I knew [The View] did not reflect my values, when I say that I mean rewarding people for bad behavior,” she said. “At that time there were executives in charge and that I did feel that we were kind of players in that game and it was about money and it was about ratings and the tabloids.”

Huntsman said that after the show’s executives dismissed her concerns, she ultimately left to “save” her mental health.

“They wanted me to wait and I said, ‘I’m out of here Friday,'” she continued. “It was just an unbearable culture by the end.”

A spokesperson for The View issued a statement to Huntsman’s comments, which was obtained by USA Today. “Twenty-two incredible women have had a seat on the panel and have worked in collaboration with the dedicated group of professionals on our staff,” the spokesperson said. “Abby will always remain a part of The View family and we look forward to continuing the conversation with her when she visits next month.”

Huntsman isn’t the only former conservative cohost to criticize the show. Earlier this month, Candace Cameron Bure said she got “PTSD” from co-hosting The View, while Meghan McCain called out its “toxic work environment” in her new memoir Bad Republican.

“The idea of [a] show dedicated to women having conversations that our society reserves for men is important and necessary in our culture. But there are some things about the show that feel stuck in 1997,” McCain wrote. “In this era of dismantling toxic work environments and refusing to accept the poor treatment of employees, how is The View still immune?
