Though we can’t exactly take you back to the Rose Apothecary, we can certainly make you feel like you’re part of the family again — because we’ve got seven shows that are just like Schitt’s Creek for you to watch, laugh with, and love just like you did the original. 'Kevin Can F**k Himself'
Kevin Can F**k Himself isn’t as sunny and fun as Schitt’s Creek, but it does feature Annie Murphy in a killer lead role. Now carrying an entire TV series on her back, the actress tackles the gender dynamics of the sitcom as she stars as a traditional comedy wife — or does she? Allison McRoberts, is trapped in a sitcom as a subservient partner to the horrible Kevin. Suddenly, she realizes she wants out — and not only does she plan on escaping, but she also wants to kill Kevin, too. Full of dark humor and a fantastic performance from Murphy, this new series is sure to enthrall all Schitt’s Creek fans.
'Degrassi: The Next Generation'
You may be wondering why a teen drama has landed on this list of family comedies. Take a look at the image above — recognize that face in the middle? That’s a young Dan Levy making his big TV break on Degrassi: The Next Generation. If you want to see where the madness of Schitt’s Creek began, look no further than Degrassi: The Next Generation. It may not have the quick-witted humor, but it’s still a funny show about teens being teens. And it’s Canadian like Schitt’s Creek! Love that for us!
'SCTV'
We’ve got works from both Rose kids (Dan Levy and Annie Murphy), but what about the parents? Believe it or not, Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara are lifetime comedy collaborators. They’ve worked together on a number of films (many in the Christopher Guest mockumentary universe, including the fantastic Best of Show), as well as on SCTV, the Second City Television Network. The show was as simple as SNL: Canadian comedians would come to perform skits. Though the series isn’t streaming anywhere at the moment, you can also check out this YouTube channel full of hits.
'Succession'
Though Succession is consistently billed as a drama series, the show is just as funny as Schitt’s Creek. Why? The family antics never end. If you love the hilarious privilege of the Rose family, you’ll surely fall in love (or, rather, in hate) with the Roy family, as well. The series follows the CEO of a massive media conglomerate, who, after falling ill, must select his successor to lead the company. The only problem is that his entire family is full of dunces and snakes out to get him.
'Happy Endings'
Are you less of a fan of Schitt’s Creek‘s family humor, and more into the rom-com side of the series? Happy Endings is for you. The show was just added to Netflix, and is a Friends-esque take on the sitcom. Six friends have to pick up the pieces of their group after the lead couple break up. And it’s not just any break-up: one leaves the other at the altar. Stunned and yearning to bring things back to normal, the pals talk it over at bars, in each other’s apartments, all with the goal of fixing everything into one happy ending.
'Kim's Convenience'
Sadly, just like Schitt’s Creek, this Canadian family comedy is reaching its end. Still, if you haven’t checked it out yet, you’re sure to love this endearing sitcom. Kim’s Convenience is about a Korean-Canadian family, the Kims, who run a convenience store in Toronto. While dealing with their own family drama and fun, they also must keep up with new customers, returning visitors, and more. They man the store together while the world evolves around them, ready to support each other when they need it.
'Arrested Development'
Arrested Development marked the beginning of the sardonic, quick-witted family comedy as we know it today. The hit series follows the epic Bluth family in all their chaotic glory. When the family’s patriarch, George Bluth, is sent to prison, his son Michael must pick up the pieces in order to restore the family’s legacy. Too bad his family is full of magicians, never-nudes, divas, and other incompetence. With his son ready to help him through the mess, Michael must decide whether he’ll help his kin out of debt.
