The Nevers Part One finale aired last night, dropping viewers into the strange story of Amalia True (Laura Donnelly). Now that we understand more about what the Galanthi are and why Amalia is so hung up on them, we might finally get what The Nevers is all about. In fact, last night’s episode of The Nevers felt like it could have been the show’s true beginning. After all, we now know what the stakes are — the future of the world (!?) — and that one of Amalia’s future enemies also hitched a ride back in time to Victorian London with the power of the Galanthi. So let’s just say we’re eager to watch The Nevers Part Two now!

The Nevers was created by Joss Whedon for HBO and tells the story of a group of men and women in Victorian England who are “Touched.” That is, when a mysterious violet space creature (aka the Galanthi) arrived in London, various spores fell to earth and touched people. Most of the Touched seem to be women and all of them come with some kind of special gift or “Turn.” Some of these Turns are cool, like the ability to see the future or create fire. However, some are tragic, painful, and destructive. While England argues over what to do with these Touched souls, Amalia True and Penance Adair (Ann Skelly) are committed to bringing them in to their “Orphanage.” However, Amalia has another secret mission: discover where the Galanthi is and who is their enemy.

The Nevers Part One ended with an episode that finally explained that the Galanthi are a super-powered alien race whose appearance in the future set off an intergalactic civil war. A “Stripe” named Zephyr (Claudia Black) committed suicide while trying to help free one of the last Galanthi. However the Galanthi took Zephyr’s spirit with it back in time and placed it in the body of another, much different, woman: Amalia “Molly” True. After tracking down the Galanthi in Victorian London, Amalia is given a glimpse of a dangerous future and the warning that someone else traveled with the Galanthi…but who?

Is HBO Making The Nevers Part Two?

Yes! The Nevers Part Two is currently in pre-production with new showrunner Philippa Goslett hard at work on scripts for the second part of the first season.

Because The Nevers Season 1’s production schedule was halted by the COVID-19 pandemic, HBO decided to split the first season of The Nevers into two parts. The Nevers Part One encompasses the first six episodes of the series, which come to a natural break with the revelations of The Nevers Episode 6 “True.”

When Will The Nevers Part Two Premiere on HBO and HBO Max?

While we don’t have official word from HBO on when The Nevers Part Two will premiere, fans should expect a bit of a wait. Filming on The Nevers Part One was completed in Fall 2020 and the series didn’t premiere on HBO until April 2021. Given that The Nevers Part Two is about to go into production later this year (and it’s a VFX-heavy show), we anticipate that The Nevers Part Two will premiere sometime in 2022.

How Many Episodes Will Be in The Nevers Part Two?

Decider has confirmation from HBO that there will be six episodes in The Nevers Part Two.

What Will The Nevers Part Two Be About?

While The Nevers is a show full of surprises, star Ann Skelly did give Decider a little tease about what to expect in The Nevers Part Two.

“I know that there are plans to expand on Penance’s world, from [Episodes] 7 ’til 12. We’ll get to know a bit more about her, and hopefully outside of maybe the orphanage but it’s still a mystery to some degree,” Skelly told Decider. “I think at the moment, Episodes 1 to 6 in particular, it’s very much about the grand mission gearing up.”

So not only will The Nevers Part Two show us the men and women of the Orphanage taking part in the great mission, but we’ll learn more about Penance.
