What Happened Last Season on Mayans MC? Here’s a Mayans MC Season 2 Recap

Last season the FX drama ended with a bang. Well, several, really.

The second-to-last episode followed the Vatos Malditos’ surprise attack on the Mayans. That attack led to former VM member Taza (Raoul Max Trujillo) murdering Riz (Antonio Jaramillo). We’re still not exactly sure why that betrayal happened, so look out for answers as we return. But the Mayans didn’t have much time to mourn their loss.

Most of the Season 2 finale revolved around EZ and Angel’s father Felipe (Edward James Olmos). Thanks to his on-again, off-again love Emily (Sarah Bolger), EZ (J.D. Pardo) learned some dirt about the troublesome Assistant U.S. Attorney agent Potter (Ray McKinnon). It turns out that Potter had a relationship and a child with one of his witnesses. That’s a big no-no in the world of bureaucratic police work. EZ and Angel (Clayton Cardenas) used this information to blackmail Potter into granting their father citizenship.

Speaking of Felipe, he has his own saga to worry about. Felipe found himself face-to-face with Dita (Ada Maris), Galindo’s widow and the women responsible for his wife’s death. Dita had a come-to-Jesus meeting about her past wrongs and wanted to make it up to him. She told Felipe that she wanted him to kill her to avenge the wife he lost. He couldn’t do it, but his son EZ sure could. And Dita was fine with taking just about any Reyes man she can get. In the finale EZ strangled Dita to death as she said a final prayer.

Does all of that seem too happy for this family? Good instinct. It turns out that Potter doesn’t like to be blackmailed. He followed through on his promise to grant Felipe U.S. citizenship, but he doesn’t extend that kindness to the rebellion leader, Angel’s love, and the mother of his child Adelita (Carla Baratta). Last we saw Adelita she was handcuffed to a hospital bed on the verge of giving birth. After Potter’s good deed he does a pretty bad one. Potter sent Angel a photo of his newborn child along with a creepy message.

“We share a common bond now. We both know the unbearable loneliness of losing the woman we love and we both feel the primal familial pain every time we realize that our sons will never know who we are,” Potter says. Baby napper! It’s unclear if Adelita is really dead or if Potter just wants Angel to think she is. We’re hoping for the latter.

The final moments of Season 2 ended in a blur. After EZ got his patch declaring him to be a full member of the Mayans, Bishop (Michael Irby) took the gang to a birthday party. That fun little “party”? It was for El Palo’s (Gregory Norman Cruz) grandmother, aka the leader of the VM and the reason why the Mayans lost Riz. Yep, it was a revenge mission. As the Mayans shot up the place, one of the mast things the camera showed was the jacket of a Sons of Anarchy member.

So not only are the Mayans now battling with VM. They now have SAMCRO to worry about. Who was that SOA member they killed? Is Adelita really dead? Will EZ and Emily just get together already? That’s what Season 3 will need to answer.
