New Movies On Demand: ‘Monster Hunter,’ ‘The Swordsman’ + More

Action is the name of the game this weekend when it comes to new released on VOD. All you have to do is look to Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s service, and you’ll have plenty of places to check out some of the most adrenaline-filled films of the year so far. We here at Decider love a palm-sweat-inducing movie full of explosions and choreographed butt-kicking, and this weekend is serving up some of the best action stars in the genre. Allow us to introduce you to what’s worth a watch.

Milla Jovovich started out in films like Dazed and Confused and Return to The Blue Lagoon, and ultimately became one of cinema’s most compelling heroes, thanks to her action-star-making turn in The Fifth Element in 1997. Since then, action and fantasy have become her brand, and in Monster Hunter, Jovovich and Ron Perlman team up to show some otherworldly monsters who’s boss. And in The Swordsman, new Korean filmmaker Jae-Hoon Choi offers a heart-pounding story of legacy, honor, and vengeance, with a hell of a lot of insane sword-fighting skills thrown in.

If action’s not your thing and you prefer moving dramas with lots of emotion, Colin Firth and Stanley Tucci star as a couple Sam and Tusker in Supernova. The pair are traveling around England one last time to visit friends and come to terms with the fact that, now that Tusker has been diagnosed with dementia, life for them will never be the same.

So what are the best movies to watch right now? Check out what’s available to buy or rent this weekend.
