Does ‘Outlander’ Star Caitriona Balfe Show Up in ‘Men in Kilts’?

Men in Kilts premiered over the weekend, giving audiences a welcome escape to Scotland. The series reunites Outlander stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish as they road trip through Scotland’s highlands, lowlands, lochs, islands, and everywhere in between. But Men in Kilts is more than just loosely associated with Outlander; it’s constantly referencing the romantic Starz hit. So does Outlander‘s leading lady ever crash Sam and Graham’s bro-fest? Does Caitriona Balfe ever appear on Men in Kilts?

Starz’s Men in Kilts is something of a passion project for actors Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish. The two met over seven years ago on the set of the smash hit Outlander. Heughan played the hunky highlander Jamie Fraser and McTavish was Jamie’s imposing, power-hungry, but patriotic uncle Dougal. McTavish has since left the long-running series, but both actors remain friends and proud Scotsmen. Men in Kilts shows their irreverent road trip through the gorgeous nation they both call home. Each series highlights a key part of Scottish culture and heritage, while also showing off Sam and Graham’s unique friendship.

Even though it’s a different show, Men in Kilts is never too far from the shadow of Outlander. So does that mean that Outlander star Caitriona Balfe might show up for an episode? She has definitely shared her support for the show on social media and it would feel like a missed opportunity if she never popped up on Men in Kilts.

IS OUTLANDER STAR CAITRIONA BALFE IN STARZ’S MEN IN KILTS?

Yes, no, sort of, but nope?

Here’s the thing. Caitriona Balfe doesn’t join co-stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish on their giddy adventure across Scotland. After all, the show is very pointedly called Men in Kilts, not Men in Kilts and an Devastatingly Beautiful Irish Actress. The show’s inherent concept is a boys’ getaway. Sam and Graham are those boys and Caitriona Balfe would likely be an interloper on that energy.

However, if you tuned into Men in Kilts this past weekend — or check out next week’s episode — you will see Caitriona Balfe. However she only appears in clips from the show Outlander. Since Heughan and McTavish met working on the hit Starz show, Men in Kilts pays homage to Outlander with cleverly timed cutaways for gags. And Balfe shows up in those clips. That’s it. So far…

WILL CAITRIONA BALFE SHOW UP IN A LATER EPISODE OF MEN IN KILTS?

We actually don’t know! Critics were only sent the very first two episodes of Men in Kilts. Furthermore, it doesn’t look like Balfe’s name shows up in the credits of any future episodes. Our best guess is she is letting this be Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish’s pet project. (After all, she is neither a dude nor a Scot, so that Men in Kilts title really doesn’t fit her energy.)

That said, a Caitriona Balfe appearance feels like the sort of big surprise that Starz wouldn’t want to ruin. So if she doesn’t pop up later for some fun, we probably won’t want it spoiled.

For now, though, assume you’ll only see Caitriona Balfe in the Outlander clips played on Men in Kilts and trust that she’s happy for Sam and Graham’s boy’s only road trip.
