For the second time in a year, former President Donald Trump will be subject to a Senate impeachment hearing, this time for his role in the January 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol. After making history as the second president to be impeached twice, Trump and his legal team will seek to defend his actions on January 6, as well as his call urging Georgia’s Republican secretary of state to “find” votes to overturn Joe Biden’s victory.

The impeachment hearing today serves as the beginning of what will likely be a weeks-long trial, so political junkies should make it a point to tune in. What time does the impeachment hearing start today? Who is presiding over the impeachment? Here’s everything you need to know.

WHEN IS THE IMPEACHMENT HEARING 2021?

Donald Trump’s second Senate impeachment hearing begins today, Tuesday, February 9. There is no set length for an impeachment hearing, but the 2021 Senate trial is expected to last for less time than Trump’s first, which ran for three weeks.

WHAT TIME DOES IMPEACHMENT HEARING START TODAY?

The impeachment hearing is expected to begin at 1 p.m. ET Tuesday. Day 2 and 3 of the hearings, on Wednesday and Thursday, will begin at 12 p.m. ET.

Day 4 of the hearings will see Trump’s defense team lay out their case against impeachment. Proceedings begin on Friday, February 12 at 12 p.m. ET.

Proceedings will continue on Saturday, February 13, the first possible day that a vote to convict Trump could occur. Day 5 of impeachment proceedings begins at 10 a.m. ET — read on for livestream info!

WHO IS PRESIDING OVER THE IMPEACHMENT?

As stated by the Constitution, the chief justice of the United States presides over presidential impeachment trials, but in late January, John Roberts announced that he would not be presiding over Trump’s second trial (he presided over the first hearing in early 2020). Instead, Senate president pro tempore Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT) will preside over the second round of Trump impeachment proceedings.
