One Night in Miami, the feature film directorial debut of Regina King, travels back in history to recreate a 1964 meeting between some of the civil rights movement’s most influential leaders, bringing together Cassius Clay, Jim Brown, Sam Cooke and Malcom X for one memorable February night at the Hampton House.
The drama, which first premiered on Prime Video last week, was praised by Decider’s John Serba for its “vital topicality” and “extraordinary acting.” Of course, the latter would be impossible without the film’s all-star cast, which includes none other than a Broadway veteran to bring musician Sam Cooke to life.

Decider’s Anna Menta called Odom’s One Night in Miami performance “phenomenal,” pointing to his role as proof that “he’s ready to be a Star with a capital S.”
WHO IS LESLIE ODOM, JR.?
Leslie Odom, Jr. is an actor and singer who’s known for his roles on Broadway, as well as his three jazz albums. The 39-year-old star was born in New York, but later moved to Philadelphia and went on to earn a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University. Odom is married to actress Nicolette Robinson — who plays his wife, Barbara Cooke, in One Night in Miami — and the two share one child together, a daughter named Lucille Ruby.
