Disney+’s WandaVision takes Marvel fans into the world of classic sitcoms, complete with black and white color palates, silly hijinks, and nosy neighbors. One nosy neighbor Marvel fans might have not seen coming? Dottie, the high-and-mighty queen bee of the fictional suburban enclave of Westview. Known as the queen of the cul-de-sac, Dottie reigns over the other suburban housewives with cruelty and grace. But who is she? What is Dottie’s deal and why does she look so darn familiar?

WandaVision marks Marvel’s first big foray into the world of Disney+ originals. The series, set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, finds Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) settling into the suburban paradise of a 1960s sitcom with her one true love, Vision (Paul Bettany). However it’s clear from the first two episodes of WandaVision that all is not what it appears. Between invading beekeepers, technicolor toy helicopters, and the nagging memory that, hey, Vision is supposed to be dead!, Marvel fans should be on guard.

Keeping Wanda on her toes? Local queen bee Dottie. But who is the ice queen of WandaVision and why does she look so familiar? Moreover, why is Dottie important to the plot of Marvel’s WandaVision? Here’s everything you need to know about Dottie on WandaVision...

WHO PLAYS DOTTIE ON MARVEL’S WANDAVISION?

Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans rejoice! WandaVision‘s Dottie is played by former Buffy star Emma Caulfield Ford! (Formerly known as Emma Caulfield.)

The 47-year-old American actress is perhaps best-known for playing lovable demon Anya on Buffy, but she’s also popped up in everything from Fear the Walking Dead to Beverly Hills: 90210 and even Robot Chicken. WandaVision takes perfect advantage of Caulfield Ford’s comic talent and her icy beauty.

WHO IS DOTTIE IN WANDAVISON?

Dottie Jones is introduced in WandaVision Episode 2. Kathryn Hahn’s Agnes explains to Wanda that Dottie is the one person in Westview whose opinion matter the most…and then Wanda proceeds to embarrass herself at a fundraiser planning committee meeting.

We learn at the end of WandaVision Episode 2 that Dottie is married to “mustache man” Phil Jones (David Lengel). But is there more to Dottie than initially meets the eye?

HOW IS DOTTIE IMPORTANT TO MARVEL’S WANDAVISION?

First thing’s first: while there’s evidence to suggest that Kathryn Hahn’s Agnes might be an MCU version of comics character Agatha Harkness, there’s nothing so far to connect Emma Caulfield Ford’s Dottie to a classic comic character. That doesn’t mean she’s not important to WandaVision, though.

In just her first appearance on WandaVision, Dottie shows that she’s potentially capable of cutting through the elaborate sitcom ruse that Wanda finds herself trapped in. There’s an eerie moment where Dottie tells Wanda she’s heard rumors about her and Vision. Wanda emphatically tells Dottie she doesn’t mean anyone harm and Dottie coldly tells Wanda she doesn’t believe her. It is at this moment that Wanda (and the audience) can hear Randall Park’s Jimmy Woo call out to Wanda via a radio. The radio sizzles and breaks and Dottie breaks a glass in her hand. Wanda is alarmed to see that Dottie is bleeding red blood in a black and white world, but Dottie seems to have fallen back into whatever reverie holds all the residents of Westview to the sitcom “reality” they live in.

So Dottie at least knows something is up with Wanda’s version of happily ever after, even if we the audience are still scrambling to figure out what’s going on in WandaVision
