Netflix Shares Chilling First Teaser for ‘Shadow and Bone’

Netflix is bringing the pages of Leigh Bardugo’s bestselling Grishaverse novels to life with Shadow and Bone, a new series based on the popular books. In a teaser released earlier today, we got a glimpse at what’s to come when the show hits streaming next year, and it comes with a promise: “You and I are going to change the world,” a voiceover says in the first clip for the fantasy adaptation.

Shadow and Bone follows Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li), an orphaned solider living in a war-torn society. But everything is about to change for Alina and the world when she discovers a power that could set her country free.  “With the monstrous threat of the Shadow Fold looming, Alina is torn from everything she knows to train as part of an elite army of magical soldiers known as Grisha,” Netflix teases in the Shadow and Bone official series description. “But as she struggles to hone her power, she finds that allies and enemies can be one and the same and that nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. There are dangerous forces at play, including a crew of charismatic criminals, and it will take more than magic to survive.”

The upcoming fantasy series comes from Shawn Levy, the producer behind hits like Stranger Things, along with Dan Levine, Dan Cohen and Josh Barry for 21 Laps Entertainment and Pouya Shahbazian. Shadow and Bone also comes from showrunner, executive producer and writer Eric Heisserer; executive producer and director Lee Toland Krieger; and Bardugo, who is an executive producer on the series.

All eight episodes of Shadow and Bone premiere on Netflix in April. Watch the full teaser in the video above.
