Operation Christmas Drop is the latest in Netflix’s stuffed 2020 holiday movie lineup, and it’s streaming right now in case you need some cheer. The film stars Kat Graham as a congressional aide sent to investigate something called “Operation Christmas Drop,” a military charity endeavor piloted by a handsome officer (Alexander Ludwig). Will she steal Christmas from the islands of Micronesia? Or will these two fall in love instead?
If you’ve already watched the film, you know how the movie ends (you probably know that without watching the movie, TBH) and you’re probably wondering if there are more merry maneuvers scheduled in the future. If so many other Netflix holiday movies can get sequels, can’t Operation Christmas Drop? Here’s what we know so far!
Will there be an Operation Christmas Drop 2 on Netflix?
Okay, it shouldn’t be a spoiler to say that the movie ends with Operation Christmas Drop still funded and on the schedule for next Christmas and many Christmases beyond. 2020 is objectively a soul-crushing nightmare, but at least this year’s Christmas movies aren’t ending on downers. So that leaves us with the question at hand: will we ever get an Operation Christmas Drop sequel? If A Christmas Prince got a trilogy, then surely this movie can get a sequel!
As of now, Netflix has not announced a follow-up to Operation Christmas Drop—which makes sense considering it just came out. Netflix waits a little while to renew TV shows for new seasons, and they wait even longer to confirm if a sequel will be released. If The Princess Switch and The Christmas Chronicles sequels are any indication, you’ll probably find out about Operation Christmas Drop 2 just a few months before it’s released!
As to whether a sequel is even possible—well, it very much is. Operation Christmas Drop is an annual event, one that could very well lend itself to future installments. It really just depends on whether or not audiences turn out and watch Operation Christmas Drop on repeat for the next seven weeks.
