Happy Friday, party people! I’m going to be honest, this author is starting to run out of things to say at the beginnings of these weekly articles. But are you really here for me, or are you here for the lineup of amazing new movies and shows available on streaming that we highlight every Friday? That’s what I thought. Whether you’re looking on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, or all of the above, starting with the freshest titles is always the way to go. New Movies and Shows to Stream This Weekend: The Trial of the Chicago 7, Helstrom, and Time

Let’s switch it up this week and start with the non-Netflix platforms. On Amazon Prime Video you can find some quality original content including What the Constitution Means to Me and Time, the heart-wrenching documentary about one woman’s fight to free her husband from jail. On HBO Max you can catch the season finale of Lovecraft Country, and you must check out Helstrom on Hulu, the original series that combines horror with Marvel magic perfectly in time for the Holiday. And last but certainly not least, Aaron Sorkin’s legal drama film The Trail of the Chicago 7 is on Netflix. New on Netflix October 16: The Trial of the Chicago 7

Aaron Sorkin has truly outdone himself with Netflix’s new original film, The Trial of the Chicago 7. Starring Eddie Redmayne, Sacha Baron Cohen, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and more, this historical legal drama tells the true story of the Chicago Seven: a group of anti-Vietnam War protestors that were accused of conspiring to incite riots at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The Trial of the Chicago 7 is not only one of the 11 best new movies to watch on Netflix, it is also one top titles to watch this month overall. But when you combine a real and moving story with an all-star cast such as this arguing their characters’ cases in the courtroom, you can’t be surprised by the film’s roaring entertainment success.

New on Amazon Prime Video October 16: Time

Time is but a fickle thing; it can both drag out to endless measures and speed swiftly by at the same measure. But doing time is is altogether another type of purgatory, something that is not altogether understood or transparent by those on both sides of the justice system. We learn this especially in Time, the moving film new on Amazon Prime Video this weekend. This documentary follows the life of Sibil Fox Richardson (also known as Fox Rich): a wife, mother, author and entrepreneur who spends her days fighting for the release of her husband, Rob, who is serving a 60-year prison sentence for a crime that they both committed. Time combines original footage with home videos, painting a heart-wrenching story about why some people commit crimes and how their time served is sometimes unbalanced

New on Hulu October 16: Helstrom

The Marvel Universe is about to get a whole lot spookier. New on Hulu this weekend is Helstrom, a terrifying series that comes straight from Marvel’s line of 1970s horror comics. The show stars Tom Austen and Sydney Lemmon as Daimon and Ana Helstrom, siblings with hellish supernatural abilities and an even more hellish past. But the ghosts of their past are put on the back-burner when a demon uprising threatens to unleash true hell on planet Earth. Do they have the power and the will to stop it? Find out in Season 1 of Helstrom, the Marvel-Halloween crossover you never knew you needed until now.
