Gabrielle Union, Sterling K. Brown and More Stars Will Remake ‘Friends’ With an All-Black Cast

The official HBO Max Friends reunion may be delayed, but fans won’t have to wait too long for an alternative. Tonight, Gabrielle Union will be hosting an all-Black Friends reading as part of the Zoom Where It Happens event series. The Friends remake will feature a slew of top talent, including Sterling K. Brown, Ryan Bathe, Jeremy Pope, and more stars.

Like the Golden Girls live table read a few weeks ago, tonight’s Friends reading is a can’t-miss event. When is Gabrielle Union’s Friends event? How do I watch the Friends remake? Here’s everything you need to know!

WHAT IS THE FRIENDS REMAKE?

Tonight’s Friends remake is a continuation of Zoom Where It Happens, a virtual event series designed to ignite voter awareness, protection, and turnout. The live table read series is produced by Black women artists from across Hollywood and sees them take on a different classic series each week.

Tonight, that show is Friends. The all-Black Friends remake will see Hollywood’s biggest stars perform a live reading of the Season 3 bottle episode “The One Where No One’s Ready,” which takes place almost entirely in Monica and Rachel’s living room.

WHEN IS THE GABRIELLE UNION FRIENDS READING?

The Friends Zoom event goes live tonight, Tuesday, September 22, at 9/8c. It’s scheduled to run for one hour.

ZOOM WHERE IT HAPPENS: HOW TO WATCH THE ALL BLACK FRIENDS EVENT

If you’ve been avoiding downloading Zoom on your phone or computer, now is the time to change that. Tonight’s virtual Friends remake will be live streamed through the popular video platform, but it’s completely free for all viewers. To watch, head to the Mobilize website, where you can enter your name, email, and phone number to sign up. Be sure to sign up ahead of time, or you won’t be sent a link in time for the Friends reading!

FRIENDS BLACK CAST: RYAN BATHE, STERLING K. BROWN, JEREMY POPE, AND MORE

Call it “The One With the Even Better Cast.” The Friends reading will star real-life couple Sterling K. Brown and Ryan Michelle Bathe as Ross and Rachel, Aisha Hinds (9-1-1) as Monica, Jeremy Pope (Hollywood) as Chandler, Uzo Aduba (Orange is the New BlackMrs. America) as Phoebe, and Kendrick Sampson (Insecure) as Joey.

BLACK FRIENDS TV SHOW: WHERE TO WATCH LIVING SINGLE

Let’s just call a spade a spade: Friends is actually an all-white remake of classic Black sitcom Living Single, so in reality, Gabrielle Union’s table read is just reverting the show to it’s original form. If the Friends Zoom event has you feeling nostalgic, check out all five seasons of Living Single on Hulu.
