‘Charlie’s Angels’ Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu Reunite to Honor 20-Year Anniversary

Drew Barrymore brought some very special guests on to the first episode of her new talk show, The Drew Barrymore Show. The actress and new daytime host welcomed her Charlie’s Angels costars, Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz, on her show today for a reunion to celebrate 20 years since their film first debuted, People reports.

Barrymore and her fellow Angels have stayed close over the years, and she introduced the women as her “partners in crime” when welcoming them onto the show. “I couldn’t begin this journey without two women who have been a part of my heart for over 20 years,” Barrymore said. “We are friends, we are fellow angels. Please welcome my partners in crime and life Lucy Liu and Cameron Diaz.”

Although it’s been two decades since they filmed their first Charlie’s Angels film, they’re still just as close as the day their action movie came out. Barrymore said, “The thing that I love about our friendship is that we have been there in all the big and important moments, we’ve also been there in the small moments and the casual moments and the reason we are such good friends is because it’s real and we go through real stuff with each other,” adding, “It’s not a Hollywood fairytale.”

To keep up with social distancing rules, the women sat six feet apart on stage, but their appearance wasn’t all that it seemed. While The Drew Barrymore Show films in New York, one of the women was actually filming in Los Angeles. “I love being together, although are we really together?” Barrymore said. “Are we all together in this room?”

The big reveal showed that Diaz was the one who was filming from L.A., and the CGI magic made her disappear and reappear in an instant. “You’ve got to try this, it’s so incredible,” Diaz joked. “The ether, the little particles going out into space and coming back re-massing into this beautiful space. You guys, it’s crazy, you should try it, it tingles!”

The Charlie’s Angels crew filmed two movies together: the original film, and the 2003 follow-up, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle. “Twenty years ago we were an elite crime-fighting team, and now look at us,” Liu said to Diaz and Barrymore. None of the women appeared in last year’s Charlie’s Angels reboot, but Barrymore was an Executive Producer on the film, which starred Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska.
