Looks That Kill

We all know at least one dangerously-attractive person, but in Looks That Kill, we meet a boy who is drop-dead gorgeous — literally. Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why) plays Max Richards, a high school student with a fatally-beautiful face. You see, his face is so perfect, so attractive, that it makes people die when they see it. So to keep the people who encounter him safe, Max’s parents must cover him in bandages and sunglasses to mask his beauty. Stuck in an extremely lonely existence, Max considers ending it all until he meets one girl (Julia Goldani Telles) who looks beyond the mask (figuratively, of course) and befriends the person underneath. But as Max lets his guard down, will the mask that protects his new friend unravel as well? Find out in Looks That Kill, now available for purchase on demand.

Miss Juneteenth

It is only fitting that today we highlight the new drama film Miss Juneteenth. As Channing Godfrey Peoples’ directorial debut, Miss Juneteenth tells the story of Turquoise Jones: a single mother (Nicole Beharie, who plays it perfectly) in Fort Worth who wants her daughter to win the Miss Juneteenth pageant, an annual competition that awards the winner a full scholarship to the historically-black college or university of her choice. Although a former winner herself, Turquoise’s life did not turn out as beautifully as the title promised, but now she determined to right her wrongs through her daughter, 15-year-old Kai, who will be the next Miss Juneteenth, no matter what it takes. A significant movie that celebrates blackness and womanhood to its core, Miss Juneteenth is definitely a movie to watch this weekend.

Selma

The Black Lives Matter movement is still going strong (rightfully so!), and iTunes is helping educate the masses with its continued promotion of free movies that highlight key aspects of the cause. This week, we are going back to the beginning with Selma, the biopic about none other than Martin Luther King, Jr. This inspiring and moving drama follows Dr. King (played by David Oyelowo) as he made the history-making march from Selma to Montgomery that culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Directed by Ava DuVernay, Selma tells the real story of how one man and his brothers and sisters helped foster a movement that is still being fought to this day.
