Sara Bareilles Reveals Theme Song for ‘Little Voice’ in Her Show’s New Teaser

Sara Bareilles is known for her hit singles and her turn as a Broadway actress, but now she’s making her debut on the small screen. Apple TV+ released a teaser for Bareilles’ new series, Little Voice, today. The upcoming show follows Bess (Brittany O’Grady), a struggling musician who is trying to get her career off the ground while dealing with her own personal issues.
In a teaser for Little Voice, Bareilles sings and plays the piano for the theme song for the show, which is played over clips and images from the upcoming episodes. Bareilles told Entertainment Weekly that the footage of her playing the song was filmed during their last day on set. “We knew that the location was gonna get torn down and so we wanted to sort of commemorate the finish line with me singing the theme song on stage there,” she said. “It wasn’t even initially intended to be woven together with the trailer; that was an organic unfolding.”
Bareilles, who is a Grammy-winner and Emmy and Tony Award-nominee, wrote the music for the series and also serves as executive producer and co-creator. Jessie Nelson, who wrote the book for the musical “Waitress,” joined Bareilles and J.J. Abrams in creating Little Voice.
Little Voice is not strictly autobiographical for Bareilles, but it is inspired by her own story and struggles as a musician in her early twenties. The name of the series is the same title of Bareilles’s debut album, which she released in 2007. Apple described the show as “a love letter to the diverse musicality of New York” in a statement released today. The series also stars Sean Teale, Colton Ryan, Shalini Bathina, Kevin Valdez, Phillip Johnson Richardson and Chuck Cooper.
The first episode of Little Voice premieres on Apple TV+ July 10. Watch the full teaser in the video above.
