Daytime Emmy Awards to Air on CBS in Virtual, Two-Hour Special

The Daytime Emmys are making their broadcast return. The awards show will come back to TV on CBS this year after streaming online for the past four years, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The upcoming broadcast marks the 47th annual awards show, but it will be virtual this year and presented as a two-hour special.

CBS will air the Daytime Emmys for the 14th time this year — more than any other network — after last showing it in 2011. The awards most recently aired on television in 2015 on Pop TV, and were previously broadcast on HLN for two years. Daytime Emmy Nominations will be announced tomorrow (May 21) on CBS’ The Talk and on the Entertainment Tonight website.

“The Daytime Emmys are coming home,” said Adam Sharp, president and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “For generations, daytime television has been a source of comfort and continuity that’s never been more important.”

The Daytime Emmy Awards feature 100 categories. Individuals and programs broadcast between 2 a.m. and 6 p.m. are eligible for consideration, along with some digital and syndicated programming. The CBS broadcast will show the leading categories, and will feature appearances from nominees and winners from their homes. Categories not featured in the show will be announced at the same time on Twitter, and others will be presented later in the summer in a separate ceremony, Deadline reports.

“In these challenging times, daytime has been a primary influence in staying connected with its audience, entertaining them, and keeping them informed,” said executive producer and director David McKenzie, of Associated Television International. “We are honored to be a part of it. We are also excited for the challenge of introducing a new format that will celebrate the contributions of daytime television.”

The 47th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards will air live on CBS at 8/7c on June 26.
