David Lynch is Gifting Us with his 2015 short, ‘Fire (Pozar)’ on YouTube Today

Director David Lynch will be sharing his 2015 short film Fire (Pozar) with the public for the first time when he unveils it on YouTube today. The short film was conceived as a collaboration between Lynch and composer Marek Zebrowski. According to The Playlist, Lynch wrote, directed, and animated the film alone and then let Zebrowski score the piece without any hint of Lynch’s own personal intentions. According to Lynch’s Twitter account, Fire (Pozar) will debut on his YouTube channel at 10 AM PT/1 PM ET today.

For the past few weeks, David Lynch has been delighting fans with daily weather updates from his Los Angeles home on YouTube this month. Only half a minute in length, these seemingly simple, straight-forward dispatches gave us a look at the Twin Peaks auteur in isolation (and ample time to marvel at how well his quarantine hair is doing). However it now seems that Lynch was using the channel as a prelude to this event. By creating a daily ritual to connect with his fans, he was seeding the audience for Fire (Pozar).

While Fire (Pozar) has screened before, it’s never been available online, making Lynch’s decision to drop it on YouTube all the more exciting. Of course, Lynch has experimented with streaming before. Earlier this year, another short film, What Did Jack Do? landed on Netflix. A riff on film noir, Lynch plays a detective cornering a murder suspect, played by a monkey and voiced by Lynch.

Fire (Pozar) will premiere on YouTube at 1 PM ET, 10 AM PT May 20, 2020.
