Olivia Pope’s next great adventure awaits. This month, Kerry Washington drama Scandal will be leaving Netflix and heading to Hulu. All seven seasons of Scandal will stream exclusively on Hulu beginning May 20, so if you’ve been dragging your feet on signing up for the Disney-owned service, now is the time to get on it.
Fans have known that Scandal is leaving Netflix since the streaming giant released its official May schedule a few weeks ago. At the time, the studio did not specify where the show would be moving, but with Hulu’s Thursday announcement, fans finally have their answer. It couldn’t have come at a better time: between Scandal and the recent series finale of Little Fires Everywhere, there’s no shortage of soapy Kerry Washington drama to stream on Hulu.
Scandal has been on Netflix for years, but as the streaming arms race intensifies, it’s no surprise that the political thriller is finally heading for Disney’s greener pastures. The drama originally aired on ABC and was produced by ABC Studios, another Disney property, so it makes sense that the corporation would want to consolidate its series in one place. Other media conglomerates have adopted a similar strategy: WarnerMedia pulled Friends off Netflix at the end of 2019 to prepare for its HBO Max launch (the new service will be the exclusive streaming home of Friends when it launches on May 27), and NBC plans to do the same with The Office in January 2021.
Created by Grey’s Anatomy‘s Shonda Rhimes, Scandal stars Kerry Washington as political fixer Olivia Pope. Each episode, Olivia and her team of operatives solve a different inside-the-Beltway problem, while also dealing with season-spanning mysteries and their own personal drama (you know, like having secret affairs with the president). The series, which ran from 2012 to 2018 on ABC, also stars Tony Goldwyn, Guillermo Diaz, Scott Foley, Darby Stanchfield, Katie Lowes, and Joshua Malina.
Scandal is leaving Netflix on May 18. It will be available to stream exclusively on Hulu May 20.
