The stars of Netflix’s two most popular shows go back way before their time on the streaming service’s Top 10 list. Jeremy Pope, who stars as aspiring screenwriter Archie Cole in Ryan Murphy’s Hollywood, revealed on Instagram that one of his oldest friends happens to Chase Stokes, the Outer Banks actor who plays rebellious Pogue John B. in the teen soap, Refinery 29 reports.
Outer Banks currently holds the number one spot on Netflix today, with Hollywood close behind at number 2. But before the stars of either series got their big break, they were in middle school together in Florida. Pope shared his friendship with Stokes with his Instagram followers yesterday. “true or false? @hichasestokes & I have known each other since middle school,” he wrote. “same graduating class in high school.” In an eerie twist, the popular series that made Pope and Stokes known to a wider audience were even released in the same time period. “somehow managed to drop our @netflix shows 2 weeks apart which are both in the Top 10 worldwide,” he wrote.
“I am so grateful to be on this journey alongside my childhood friend,” Pope added, joking, “will proudly run any and all of his fan accounts.”

The two actors attended school together at Timber Creek High School in Orlando, Florida, before they went on to have successful acting careers. Stokes hinted about his friendship with Pope long before either landed on Netflix. In what feels like the ancient past of 2015, he posted a photo of the two them on Instagram and tagged his friend in the caption.
And if all of this wasn’t coincidental enough, real life and fiction bleed together in Stokes’ series, Outer Banks. Fans will know his character John B. has a best friend who is also named Pope (Jonathan Daviss) — although it’s his first name, not last.
Netflix, you know what to do: we’re patiently waiting for one series that stars both of the two old friends.
