Former NFL Star Rob Gronkowski Captures Championship Gold At WrestleMania 36

Former New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski wasn’t just the official host of WrestleMania 36, he was an active participant. The three-time Super Bowl champion got his first taste of WWE gold, pinning his pal Mojo Rawley during a mid-show melee to become WWE 24/7 champion on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

The WWE’s most chaotic championship since the Hardcore Title of the Attitude Era, the 24/7 title can be defended 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Gronk almost won the title from R-Truth during Part 1 of WWE’s two-night WrestleMania event, but Rawley swooped in and stole the pin to capture 24/7 gold.

Gronk would have his revenge during the second night of WrestleMania.

“I’ve won three major championships in my life and that’s cool and all, but that’s in the past,” Gronkowski said at the beginning of Sunday night’s show. “I wouldn’t mind winning the 24/7 title… I’m here at WrestleMania; I want that title.”

What Gronk wants, Gronk gets. During a mid-show 24/7 skirmish, the former NFL star jumped off a balcony, crashing onto a slew of WWE stars, including newly-minted title holder Mojo Rawley. Gronk pinned his friend to become the new 24/7 champion.

Gronkowski is just the latest in a long line of unique 24/7 champions. The chaotic nature of the 24/7 championship has led to a number of unusual title holders, including NASCAR’s Kyle Busch, DJ Marshmello, NBA star Enes Kanter, sports commentator Rob Stone, and Jolly Old Saint Nich himself… Santa Claus.
