‘Some Good News’: John Krasinski Stages ‘The Office’ Reunion with Steve Carell in New Talk Show

John Krasinski is here to deliver Some Good News, a new YouTube series that highlights uplifting stories from around the world. Krasinski released the first full episode on Sunday afternoon, and what an episode it was: in honor of The Office‘s 15th anniversary, the SGN premiere features a sweet interview with Steve Carell, who discussed his favorite memory from their time on the show. Obviously, it’s “The Dinner Party” episode.

Yesterday, Krasinski officially introduced Some Good News to the world, a “highly produced” talk show that aims to bring a little bit of light to viewers stuck at home due to coronavirus. “For years now, I’ve been wondering, why is there not a news show dedicated entirely to good news?” explained the actor in the series premiere. In an attempt to cheer himself (and the world) up, he crowdsourced on Twitter and received thousands of heartwarming stories about everyday heroes. “I thought, ‘Enough is enough, world. Why not us? Why not now?'” said Krasinski. “So, ladies and gentlemen, this is your fault. And this is SGN.”

While Krasinski may have joked that he “has absolutely no idea what [he’s] doing,” the SGN premiere suggests otherwise. The actor-turned-producer-and-director-and-writer opened his show with stories about “the heroism of the global healthcare community,” as well as uplifting tales about delivery drivers, people separated from their partners, and bored couples at home. “SGN may be a new site for good news, but we are by no means the first,” added Krasinski before plugging other sites and web series that will put a smile on viewers’ faces.

But of course, Krasinski couldn’t possibly let The Office‘s major anniversary go unmentioned. “On a personal note, this week actually brought a whole lot of news because it marked 15 years since this haircut was born,” he said, holding up a photo of floppy-haired Jim. Krasinski then introduced SGN‘s “entertainment correspondent” Steve Carell, and the two reflected on their lengthy tenure as NBC stars.

“What were some of your favorite memories?” asked Krasinski. “All of our exchange around the micro flat-screen TV,” replied Carell, referencing iconic Season 4 episode “The Dinner Party.” SGN even snagged some behind-the-scenes footage from the episode, in which the entire cast loses it at Carell’s barely-moving television. “I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder in my life,” said Krasinski. You are certainly not alone.
