‘Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’ Season 3 Brings In Estimated 2.1 Million Viewers on Premiere Day

Midge Maisel can do no wrong. On Tuesday, audience measurement agency Nielsen released new streaming data for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3, which it estimates that the season premiere watched by 2.1 million U.S. viewers in its first day on Amazon Prime Video. By Nielsen’s estimation, the Emmy-winning comedy more than doubled its premiere day average minute audience from last season (972,000 viewers) and brought in more viewers than any other Amazon Original debut.

According to Nielsen’s Subscription Video On Demand (SVOD) Content Ratings solution, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel has continued to gain popularity on Amazon. The ratings agency estimates that the Maisel Season 3 premiere was watched by 2.13 million viewers on launch day (December 6, 2019), a clear win over last year’s Season 2 premiere haul of 972,000. The staggering figure places Amy Sherman-Palladino’s comedy ahead of other successful Amazon Originals, most notably the Jack Ryan Season 2 premiere, which was streamed by an estimated 2.06 million viewers on November 1, 2019.

But viewers didn’t just stop after streaming the first episode. Nielsen estimates that The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 3 brought in 606,000 viewers across all eight episodes on premiere day, once again doubling last year’s figure (240,000). On the whole, the third installment had a reach of 2.4 million unique U.S. TV viewers, a figure that takes into account the cumulative total of a population that has been counted as viewers at least once during a specified interval.

Nielsen also estimates that the comedy’s success continued beyond its first day on Amazon Prime Video. In its first seven days on the service (December 6 to December 12), Maisel Season 3 had an average minute audience 3.15 million U.S. viewers, with a reach of nearly 6.9 million. In the seven-day statistics, Season 3 once again bested the show’s sophomore run: just under 2 million viewers are estimated to have watched Season 2 during this period of time.

When it comes to audience demographics, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel continues to draw a majority female audience. During the specified interval, 62% of Season 3 viewers were women, down three percent from Season 2. Maisel‘s female skew is far more prominent than that of other Amazon Originals, which Nielsen estimates are watched by a 52% female audience overall.
