Meghan McCain and Whoopi Goldberg Throw Down on ‘The View’: “Don’t Be So Dismissive!”

Art imitated life this morning on The View. On Tuesday, a discussion about Trump’s Ukraine drama got heated when Meghan McCain said that Democrats should “just impeach” the president if they’re not going to listen to Nancy Pelosi’s concerns about “the political implications of this.” The conversation quickly turned into a Republican vs. Democrat battle, with McCain squaring off against Whoopi Goldberg from across the table. “The nostalgia for Bush right now always entertains me,” said the conservative firebrand. “I’m glad you’re entertained,” replied a sarcastic Goldberg. “Don’t be so dismissive when you’re talking!”

The View‘s Trump-Ukraine discussion kicked off on a surprising note: Abby Huntsman, after insisting all last week that we should proceed with caution on this story, admitted that “this is really alarming.” Said Huntsman, “Now we have more of the facts. The president himself admitted it. In my opinion, this is extortion.” Sunny Hostin, who has been calling for impeachment for months, Whoopi Goldberg, and Joy Behar agreed, with Behar saying, “His crimes have been as clear as the nose on your face.”

McCain may be a Trump critic, but she didn’t agree. The conservative co-host noted that “President Obama controversially resisted bipartisan efforts to send military assistance to the Ukraine,” a fact she feels is “ironic” given that Democrats are “a proponent of it now.” Continued McCain, “Unleash the kraken. Because honestly, if you’re not going to listen to Nancy Pelosi about the political implications of this, just impeach him.” She added that she’s “sick of hearing everybody bitch about” impeachment, as well as the “infighting among Democrats” on the issue.

“Don’t worry about the Democrats. The Democrats will get it together,” replied Behar. “You sure about that?” said McCain, adding that she wants Behar’s quote displayed prominently on election night. The audience clapped, but she wasn’t having it. “Oh, come on,” she said. McCain went on to say that Democrats were “calling for Bush’s impeachment” in the early 2000s, and at “a certain point… you are sounding an alarm at all times.”

And with that, the table went off. Behar yelled that she’s “talking to [her] base,” while McCain insisted that she’s “talking to Republicans.” Goldberg’s voice finally rose above the rest. “Let me be clear about me and Republicans,” she said, explaining that she’s “been friends with Republicans [her] whole life.” Goldberg cited an example of her backing Bush’s border security policy, but McCain laughed it off. “Again, the nostalgia for Bush right now always entertains me,” said the co-host.

“Well, I’m glad you’re entertained,” fired back Goldberg. “If you can’t see why people are upset about this –” McCain insisted that “of course” she understands why people are upset, but The View‘s longtime moderator wouldn’t have it. “Then don’t be so dismissive when you’re talking!” said Goldberg.

Rather than let McCain continue, Goldberg threw the show to commercial. “Ugh, god,” said McCain as she rolled her eyes. This time, she stayed in her seat as the cameras pulled back. I guess only Ana Navarro gets the “storm off set” treatment.
