What’s the difference between all these “Great British Baking” shows?!? Are The Great British Baking Show and The Great British Bake Off the same shows? What’s the Difference Between The Great British Bake Off and The Great British Baking Show?
Brace yourselves for what I’m about to tell you:
There is no real difference between The Great British Bake Off and The Great British Baking Show.
They are the same show. For seven seasons, The Great British Bake Off starring hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc and judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood aired on Britain’s premiere TV network, the BBC. When American public broadcaster PBS began importing seasons of the series in 2014, they were forced to tweak the name. According to PBS, they had to change the name of The Great British Bake Off to The Great British Baking Show because Pillsbury owns the rights to the phrase “Bake-Off” in the United States (and Pillsbury did not want to lend PBS the name).
So there you have it: The Great British Baking Show is just The Great British Bake Off.

First, let’s tackle The Great British Baking Show: Masterclass. Once The Great British Bake Off became a massive international hit, Love Productions (the team behind the series) and the BBC decided to make a spin-off where Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry offer tutorials on how to properly tackle the show’s trickiest challenges. There are masterclasses for Seasons 3-6 (or Collections 1-3 and The Great British Baking Show: Origins, if you’re watching on Netflix).
The Great British Baking Show: Origins is not a spin-off. It is simply an early season of the show that was not broadcast in the states until recently. Because it predates any of the Collections on Netflix (it’s technically Season 3, by the by), the streaming service has chosen to give it its own separate listing. That’s all. It’s kind of like a prequel.
