‘Hollywood Game Night’: Jane Lynch Remembers a Contestant So Drunk He Was “In the Fetal Position” on the Floor

Hollywood Game Night is known for getting a little rowdy, but things may be even more wild off-screen. On Thursday night, Hollywood Game Night host Jane Lynch stopped by Conan, where she described the show’s early practice of getting contestants rip-roaring drunk. Lynch told Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter that the NBC game show “used to” encourage drinking, but they had to stop after their drunk and disorderly contestants became too difficult to manage. “We had a guy in the fetal position!” recalled the host.

During their wide-ranging interview, O’Brien asked Lynch about her experience on Hollywood Game Night, which she’s hosted since it first debuted in 2013. “The one thing I heard,” asked the TBS host, “is that you encourage people to drink. You encourage contestants to drink.” Lynch corrected him, saying, “We used to,” before explaining further. “It is true — we used to, anyways,” she said. “For the first few seasons, every time the glass was empty, they would fill it up. But people got drunk. We had some drunk — we had a guy in the fetal position!”

“Celebrities? Celebrities got drunk?” asked O’Brien. “Celebrities, oh yeah,” replied Lynch, who added that no, she “will not” name names. She recalled a moment where a woman “went into the fetal position” on the floor (why is this people’s go-to drunk reaction?) and Hollywood Game Night had to “cut around it.” Said Lynch, “She was crying because she lost the point for the — and she felt bad, and she went into the fetal position. Tears.”

“We had one guy who couldn’t stand up anymore,” she continued. “And then we had one celebrity give a huge speech about how hard it is to find a good nanny.”

“Nothing bonds you to a crowd,” joked O’Brien. “That’s really relatable.”

Watch Lynch recall her favorite game show drunkos in the clip above. Hollywood Game Night is currently airing every Wednesday at 10/9c on NBC.
