Woman Crush Wednesday: We’re Head Over Heels for Paula Pell in ‘Wine Country’

Happy Wednesday, folks! While you’re making your way through this hopefully happy Hump Day, let’s take a moment to celebrate one of the greatest women in comedy. Happy Woman Crush Wednesday to our favorite lady, Paula Pell!

WHO’S THAT GAL: Paula Pell

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: One thing we’ve always loved about Pell is that she’s truly fantastic in all of her roles. No matter how small the part or how crazy the character, she hits it out of the park. She’s got comedy just flowing out of her fingertips. On-screen and off, she has never failed to make us smile and for that, we are eternally grateful. If you don’t believe me, you’re just gonna have to see for yourself. And you’re in luck because Pell’s performance in the new Netflix original movie Wine Country is definitely one you won’t wanna miss.

In Wine Country, Pell plays Val, one of the many funny ladies on a trip to Napa to celebrate their bestie Rebecca’s (Rachel Dratch) 50th birthday. Put a bunch of wine drunk women together and nothing could possibly go wrong, right? During a weekend that goes a bit astray, Pell’s character is often one of the best voices of reason. Okay yeah, maybe she’s looking for a little romance this weekend (wink, wink) and breaking in her brand new knees, but Val has it pretty much together. At least, more together than some of her friends.

Every time Pell hits the screen you know it’s gonna be great. There’s no doubt about it. Whether she’s the one driving the scene or just there to say a funny one-liner, she nails it. And this role is no different. Pell brings us everything she’s got and we’re totally in love with it. If we learned anything from watching Wine Country it’s that Paula Pell is a comedy legend, and TBH, we kinda wish she was one of our besties.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Pell is certainly no stranger to the comedy world. Right now, she stars in A.P. Bio as the overly eager office secretary Helen. She played the role of Pete Hornberger’s wife Paula in 30 Rock, and made guest appearances throughout the series. Plus, Pell also appeared as Ron Swanson’s mother in Parks and Recreation. Over the years she has made guest appearances in shows like Love, Smilf, Documentary Now, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. Pell has also voiced various characters in Netflix’s Big Mouth and Pixar’s Inside Out.

And if you thought she couldn’t get any better, Pell has also written for and appeared in a plethora of projects, including Saturday Night Live and the 2015 comedy Sisters.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Get ready because we’re seeing some Pell power in your very near future. This Friday (yes, two days from now!) Pell’s latest project Wine Country is dropping on Netflix. In the film, Pell and all your fave funny ladies (Amy Poehler, Rachel Dratch, Maya Rudolph, and more) head over to Napa Valley to celebrate their friend’s 50th birthday and great news: you’re invited!
