Now Apocalypse is the sexiest show on TV. Literally. There are more sex scenes in this show than any other I’ve ever seen with my eyeballs. The half-hour Starz series is also the most millennial show you could possibly watch in 2019 and that’s saying something. But if you’re in the mood for something that’s as sultry as it is silly, look no further than this gem.
Created by Gregg Araki, the series follows four Los Angelenos as they try to figure out their personal and professional lives. So that includes failing auditions, networking, and yes, f*cking. Lots of that last one. Avan Jogia is Ulysses, a lover and not a labeler, which allows us to watch him get it on with all kinds: a married dude, a delivery dude, a mysterious dude, a party hottie. It seems like this dude is humping as much as he’s vaping and that’s a whole lot. Oh, and in his spare time he’s trying to figure out if aliens really exist (hint: they definitely might!).
Uly’s roommate is Ford (Beau Mirchoff), the most earnest teddy bear you ever could meet. Unfortunately he’s in love with the icy Severine (Roxane Mesquida), a scientific babe uninterested in the monogamy Ford craves so much, which introduces the couple to many threesome (or more!) encounters.
And then there’s Carly (Kelli Berglund) an actress who is struggling just as much to get an audition as she is to get the right kind of loving from her boyfriend, fellow actor Jethro (Desmond Chiam). In between her cam girl gigs, she experiments with some not-so-light spanking and other adventures with Jethro, and is never afraid to take a satisfying bath all by herself.
The Starz series is an interesting look at the way millennials view sex: some with a casualness, and others with a seriousness, that is not always acknowledged or respected in other series. Sure, some of the scenes are pure comedy, others are pure sweat, and then there’s that spanking. But there is no other show that dares to include the sex scenes Now Apocalypse is putting on screen. It’s hot and shocking and if you like what you see here, well, there’s plenty more where that came from.
