With The Act‘s eighth and final episode, one of the most warped and shocking crime drama sagas of the spring has come to an end. Though The Act‘s finale does a good job communicating what happened to Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Nicolas Godejohn after the night of their horrifying murder, it still left a few loose ends when it comes to specifics.

Created by Nick Antosca and Michelle Dean, The Act tells a dramatized version of a truly bizarre true crime case. In June of 2015, the murdered body of Dee Dee Blanchard was found, a woman who was believed to be the supportive and loving mother to a chronically ill child. However, that was never the case. As police, attorneys, and journalists eventually pieced together, Dee Dee’s daughter, the real Gypsy Rose Blanchard, was never sick or mentally unwell. She was a completely healthy young woman who had been systematically abused by her mother her entire life. And it was this seemingly innocent and helpless child who ultimately plotted to murder her mother with the help of her boyfriend, Nicolas Godejohn.

The Act makes it clear that both Blanchard and Godejohn’s crimes led to jail time. But where exactly are they now? Here’s everything you need to know.

Where Is Gypsy Rose Blanchard Now?

In The Act’s final moments, the series gives an update on the real Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s case. “A year into her incarceration, Gypsy pled guilty to second degree murder,” the text says. “She is currently serving 10 years. When she gets out, she is planning to start a family of her own.”

In July of 2015, Blanchard accepted a plea bargain agreement for second degree murder that led to the 10-year prison sentence she’s currently serving. She is imprisoned in Missouri’s Chillicothe Correctional Center and will be eligible for parole by the end of 2023. By that time she will be 32 years old.

By all reports it seems that Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been doing well in prison. Not only has her time in jail helped her gain weight and take classes, but Blanchard actually got engaged while serving time. Though her fiancé’s name has yet to be revealed, we do know that they met through the prison’s pen-pal program as well as a bit about her engagement ring. According to Cosmopolitan, Blanchard’s engagement ring was given to her by a fellow inmate who was getting divorced. Once Blanchard is released from jail, the two plan to get married.

Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Facebook Page Real?

It was. According to a recent report from CBS News, Dee Dee Blanchard’s Facebook page is still up along with the infamous post that led to authorities discovering Blanchard’s body. It’s now an in-memoriam page for Blanchard.

Where Is Nick Godejohn Now?

As The Act‘s finale states, Godejohn is still in jail. Godejohn had a much more complicated trial than Blanchard. He also faced far more severe charges as he was the one who actually committed Dee Dee Blanchard’s murder. His trial was postponed in January of 2017 at the request of prosecutors for a psychiatric exam. The court finally came to a verdict in February of 2019. Godejohn was sentenced to life in prison for first degree murder. He was also given 25 years for armed criminal action, a charge that will be served concurrent to his life sentence.

After his conviction Godejohn’s attorneys pushed for a new trial, arguing that the jury was swayed against Godejohn after learning he considered raping Dee Dee Blanchard the night of her murder. The defense also argued over the court’s decision to let a state psychologist testify and not Godejohn’s psychologist. A judge denied this new trial. However the judge noted that the psychologist argument may have merit to a higher court if the case moved through the appeals process. Godejohn is still in prison without the possibility of parole.
