EXCLUSIVE: Will Elisabeth Shue Join ‘Cobra Kai’ Season 3? “I’m Thinking About It”

Warning: Cobra Kai Season 2 spoilers ahead.

The Cobra Kai Season 2 finale left fans with a variety of questions: Will Miguel survive the injuries he sustained from the great Cobra Kai/Miyagi-Do showdown of 2019? Will Cobra Kai return to their evil ways now that original sensei John Kreese (Martin Kove) has taken over? And perhaps most importantly, what does the season’s final image mean for a potential Season 3?

Season 2 of YouTube Premium’s critical darling concluded with a mentally defeated Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) dramatically tossing his cell phone near the ocean. As Lawrence sulked away to parts unknown, the camera zoomed in on his phone to reveal that “the one who got away,” Ali Mills Schwarber herself, had sent Johnny a Facebook friend request.

The final image was a delicious tease for old school Karate Kid fans. Anyone who knows their crane kick from their Bonsai tree remembers the character of Ali Mills from the original franchise. Memorably portrayed by Elisabeth Shue, Ali was the love interest of both Daniel and Johnny in the original 1984 classic. Back in Season 1 of Cobra Kai, the two rivals found common ground when reminiscing about their old high school sweetheart, as it was revealed that Ali is now married and working in Denver as the head of pediatric surgery for a hospital in Denver.

Even though YouTube has yet to officially renew Cobra Kai for Season 3, Decider asked series co-creator Jon Hurwitz about Shue potentially reprising her role in a probable third season. Hurwitz didn’t have any concrete answers regarding the Ali Mills of it all, so instead, we decided to go straight to the source. During a press junket for her upcoming Amazon Prime superhero drama The Boys, Decider asked Shue if she’d be appearing in Season 3 of Cobra Kai. The actress not only revealed to us that she’s seen the show, but said that she’s thinking about bringing the beloved character to the small screen.

“I’m thinking about it, but I don’t know. I just don’t know,” Shue told Decider. “But I think they’ve done a great job. I’m very impressed with what they’ve done with it. I really am.”

Shue continued, “It’s an interesting test: Could you take films and then take the characters, plop them down in their 50s? Like The Breakfast Club, iconic ’80s movies, put them in their 50s, what are they doing now, and make them work together?”

Last year, it only took eight days for YouTube to renew Cobra Kai for a second season. The latest installment has been met with critical acclaim, so we expect to hear about a potential Season 3 renewal sooner rather than later.

Hopefully that third season will include the return of Elisabeth Shue’s Ali Mills.
