Happy Birthday Jodie Sweetin: The 9 Best Stephanie Episodes of ‘Full House’

Did you think we were gonna let Jodie Sweetin’s birthday just go by without running through a list of Stephanie Tanner’s best Full House moments? Two words for you: how rude!

Today is Jodie Sweetin’s birthday and you bet we’re gonna celebrate by talking all about Stephanie Tanner’s wildest, weirdest, and realest moments on the best family sitcom of the ’90s (and also a little bit of the ’80s, too). As Stephanie Tanner, Sweetin got the best of both worlds. She got to play the precocious little kid in the first half of the series, before the Olsen twins were able to speak. And then at the end of the show, she got to be a cool tween into hanging out and rocking out. Factor in her time on Fuller House as an adult (and globetrotting musician) and we’ve all practically grown up alongside Stephanie.

Below you’ll find the 9 episodes of Full House and Fuller House that spotlight just how rad Stephanie is and just how far she’s come. And you bet there’s an Urkel cameo. How could we forget Urkel?!

Every sitcom middle child has to have an episode where they freak out about being just that: the middle child. Stephanie’s came in Season 2 of Full House when she threw her arms up in frustration and rushed a wedding to her best friend Harry Takayama. If only Danny, Jesse, and Joey had paid attention to her excellent hula-hooping skills, she wouldn’t have felt the need to get hitched!

Stephanie got the attention of everybody in this episode by accidentally backing Joey’s brand-new car through the kitchen window. It kinda made sense, though! Joey moved into the converted garage, meaning the Tanner’s could have turned the dining room into a new one! Stephanie didn’t see things that way and instead planned to hitchhike to Mexico rather than deal with the fallout from her impromptu remodeling.

When Stephanie faces a mortifying future as a four-eyed geek (at least how she sees it), she gets a pick-me-up from the kid with the most geek cred of all: Steve Urkel! Yep, Jaleel White makes the trip from Chicago (and Family Matters) to San Francisco just in time to help Steph beat her bespectacled blues.

"Gotta Dance" (5x8)

Stephanie’s dance career gets kicked up a notch in this Season 5 episode, but is her all dance all the time routine too much for her to take?

This episode also includes Steph’s legit iconic dance number to Boyz II Men’s “Motownphilly,” a routine that drag superstar Alyssa Edwards praised: “Girl funky. Ain’t nothing like the good ‘ol Full House days. We got a funky dance with a Janet Jackson inspired jacket, hat, with the jazz boots and some funky moves and these girls are getting down.”

Those middle-kid woes reared their head again in this Season 6 episode, when Stephanie’s pleas to get her ears pierced fall on Danny’s deaf ones. So Stephanie does what, well, no one should do: she turned to Kimmy Gibbler and her definitely not up-to-code piercing gun! How’d things turn out? Stephanie’s rocking the Princess Leia look in the pic above for a reason.

"Fast Friends" (7x5)

New to junior high, Stephanie tries her hardest to fit in with the cool girls in school. There’s only one problem: the cool girls kill time hanging out in the bathroom… and smoking! Can Stephanie figure out how to just say “no” and still maintain her cool? Will she choose having healthy lungs or new friends?!

"Stephanie's Wild Ride" (8x9)

The Tanner girls were always good kids, playing by the rules (at least after one heart-to-heart with their dad, their uncle, or their Joey). Stephanie’s biggest bad girl moment came in Full House’s final season when she and her bad girl BFF Gia went joyriding with two rando teenage boys. That’s definitely not safe, and this one ends with one of the most “yikes” endings of any Full House episode.

"We Got the Beat" (8x18)

Stephanie moved from being a dancer to a wannabe guitar goddess in this one. It turns out that the most important thing about being a rock star isn’t knowing all the chords to Ace of Base’s “The Sign.” It’s way more important to spend all your rehearsal time at the mall so you look the part. Okay, that’s just what Stephanie and the rest of Girl Talk thought. Their debut performance went about as well as you think.

Fast-forward 20-ish years and Girl Talk’s awkward debut is but a distant memory. On Fuller House, the Netflix sequel to Full House, Stephanie is a world-famous DJ, spinning records and dropping beats under the can’t-believe-how-perfect-this-name-is name DJ Tanner. How successful is Stephanie, a.k.a. DJ Tanner? She’s big enough to play Coachella, which she does in this episode! Being the cool aunt she is, she even lets her nephew Max entertain the Coachella crowd via FaceTime.
