‘Jack Ryan’ Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

That’s a wrap on Season 1 of Jack Ryan. Prime Video’s latest hit was a critical darling, earning a 72% Tomatometer rating and 89% Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. After a slow start, John Krasinski’s mild-mannered analyst turned bad-ass action hero morphed into an absorbing series filled with non-stop twists and turns. The eight-episode season was just enough to satisfy viewers while also leaving them wanting more. If you’re a fan of Tom Clancy’s iconic character, Amazon’s Jack Ryan is a welcome addition to the franchise’s legacy.

What do showrunners Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland have in store for Season 2 of Jack Ryan? Here’s everything we know so far.

WILL THERE BE A JACK RYAN SEASON 2?

You bet! Amazon’s already renewed the series for Season 2. Variety reports that Season 2 will focus on Ryan “[confronting] the forces in power in a dangerous, declining democratic regime in South America.”

“With so much early anticipation for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan from our customers and personally having the pleasure to preview the exhilarating, action-packed first season, we are excited to greenlight a second season of the series months ahead of its debut,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “The new season will take our unexpected hero to a new, exciting and dangerous world.”

WHO’S RETURNING FOR SEASON 2?

John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce (James Greer), and Abbie Cornish (Cathy Mueller) will all be back for Season 2. John Hoogenakker (Matice) will also be returning. The actor’s been upgraded to a series regular and, as IMDB notes, he’ll be appearing in at least seven Season 2 episodes.

WILL THE JACK AND GREER RELATIONSHIP CONTINUE IN SEASON 2?

Yep. Even though Greer is off to Russia, Roland told The Hollywood Reporter that “the partnership will continue.”

ANY NEW CHARACTERS FOR JACK RYAN SEASON 2?

You know it. House of Cards vet Michael Kelly has joined the cast as a series regular. Deadline reports that Kelly will portray Mike November, a “smart, seasoned career field officer in the CIA who works with both Jack Ryan and Jim Greer.”

Noomi Rapace (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Prometheus) has also signed on for next season. Rapace will portray BND agent Harriet “Harry” Baumann, a sharply intelligent BND agent who crosses paths with Jack Ryan in South America.

Last month, it was also announced that Jovan Adepo, Jordi Molla, Cristina Umaña, and Francisco Denis would be joining the cast for the show’s sophomore season. The Wrap reports that Molla will portray a “powerful and charismatic leader of the South American country,” while Denis plays one of the country’s senior government officials.

Adepo joins the series as Marcus, a former Navy official whose life takes a turn when an old colleague offers him a critical position in a covert operation, while Umaña will play Gloria Bonalde, a woman who “fearlessly balances her career in politics with the demands of motherhood.”

WHEN WILL JACK RYAN SEASON 2 PREMIERE?

Season 2 of Jack Ryan is expected to premiere in 2019. Thanks to Amazon’s early renewal, production on Season 2, which like Season 1 will consist of eight episodes, began this summer. Season 2 is scheduled to shoot in Europe, South America, and the United States.

While no official release date has been announced, we’d expect Season 2 to drop in the summer of 2019.
