Ted Bundy’s Lawyer Reveals How His Client Escaped From Prison in The ‘In Defense Of’ Finale

It appears as though Oxygen’s In Defense Of has saved the creepiest for last.

The true crime docuseries features some of the most powerful lawyers in the country, who served as defense attorneys for the alleged criminals that made the biggest headlines of their time. After fascinating looks inside the trials of Timothy McVeigh, the Branch Davidians, and Jodie Arias, this Sunday’s series finale focuses on John Henry Browne, the man responsible for defending Ted Bundy, and it is sure to give you chills.

In the exclusive clip above, Browne recalls of his client, “He was always trying to manipulate or charm me. He failed at both.” The episode will go on to detail how Bundy escaped from prison — for the second time! After he got out of jail in Aspen, he was placed in a facility in Glenwood Springs, CO, where he had a bit of a lifestyle shift and began to work out a lot.

“It was amazing to me how much weight he’d lost,” Browne said, noting that Bundy became “very muscular, very thin.”

Well, it turns out that was all part of his plan. Browne explains why he felt so guilty about Bundy’s plan and escape from the jail, which is only one of many interesting revelations to come.

Catch John Henry Browne on In Defense Of airing Sunday, July 15 at 8pm ET/PT on Oxygen.
