The Season 10 finale of RuPaul’s Drag Race was gagworthy… but… in a way more mortifying way than usual. There were a lot of casualties during last night’s lip-sync tournament for the crown, and I don’t just mean the losing queens. Spoiler alert for the finale, because I’m about to get into the most insane moment in the entire 90-minute spectacle–and how Bob’s Burgers totally called it!

After an hour of reminiscing and shout outs from Oprah and Dame Judi Dench (wow!), the battle for the crown finally began in earnest. The four queens–Asia O’Hara, Aquaria, Eureka, and Kameron Michaels–gathered on stage in outfits that were so blatantly stuffed with surprises and reveals. A spin of a wheel determined that Kameron would lip-sync first, and she chose to battle against Asia, meaning we’d finally see what was under Kameron’s kimono and inside Asia’s ginormous cone boobies. None of us, not even Asia, were prepared for what would happen.

As two killer performers, these two immediately got into the groove of Janet Jackson’s “Nasty.” This was gonna be a fight–but seriously, what was in Asia’s boobs?! As soon as she reached up to her wrist and pulled off the lid to a box I didn’t even see was there (that was some busy looking drag), it hit me: butterflies. Oh my god, there are butterflies in those boxes, and in her boobs. And having just watched the Bob’s Burgers season finale back in May… I knew this wasn’t going to end well. It didn’t. It was horrifying, embarrassing, and the darkest of comedic moments. All of the butterflies were either tired, dead, or dead tired. They weren’t flying. The reveal wasn’t a euphoric eruption of beautiful bugs, like Asia hoped.

If Asia had only watched the Bob’s Burgers episode “Something Old, Something New, Something Bob Caters For You,” the season finale from back in May, maybe she would have seen this coming! In that episode, Bob and the Belchers are asked to cater a super unlucky wedding. Everything goes wrong, including the big reveal that the boxes placed under the attendees’ chairs contain butterflies… dead butterflies. Let’s do a comparison:

Faced with a container of butterflies that either refuse to or cannot fly, the humans involve do the only thing they can do: chuck them in the air.

Ouch, right? It’s painful to watch in animated form, and even more painful to see in real life when $100,000 is on the line. Unlike the animated bride and groom who killed a whole bunch of butterflies, Asia O’Hara apologized for The Butterfly Incident.

What did we learn from this? Don’t stuff butterflies in boxes, for one thing. And second: Asia, clear some space on your DVR for Bob’s Burgers! Or get a Hulu account, it’s right there! It’s a good show, and surprisingly prescient in matters of drag. Fingers crossed this confluence of events gets Tina Belcher a visit to the Werk Room in Season 11.
