Afternoon Delight: Be Smart & Watch ‘Stupid Idiots’, A Side-Splitting, Surreal Web Series Bound To Be Your New Fave

What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re spotlighting Stupid Idiots, an acerbic, witty web series written, directed, and edited by Stephanie Koenig.

The series stars Koenig opposite the hilarious Brian Jordan Alvarez as two friends who get through their days by bickering and bonding in equal measure. We first meet our duo at a nondescript job that seems to be a mystery to both of them, but things start looking up when a friend uses a song they created in a “drone video” and they decide to put together a Kickstarter to help fund their burgeoning music career (and get out of the office job they still don’t fully understand). The ensuing shenanigans – including Brian (possibly?) being hit on by his drone video friend, Stephanie refusing to give up a parking spot, and a dog having a garage sale – provide some completely surreal, seriously smart comedy in every scene.

Koenig and Alvarez, who previously teamed up when they starred on the brilliant The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo, have ridiculously sparky, side-splitting chemistry that drive each joke home and set Stupid Idiots apart from other similar series. They play completely bonkers moments (like Ripley the dog placing a price tag on Stephanie’s leg) with a deadpan rarely done well these days and the results are absolutely uproarious. No matter what they do, these hapless pals find a way to find each other again, and never fail to deliver on intelligent laughs and bits so bananas you’ll find yourself rewinding it to catch it again.

The impact of Koenig’s clever writing clearly was not lost on viewers, as the Stupid Idiots will be receiving the TV treatment courtesy of Paramount TV & Anonymous Content. If you want to be ahead of the curve and know exactly which hilarious new series everyone is talking about, don’t be a stupid idiot – go watch more now. You might be sad there are only six chunks to consume at the moment, but try to find a little solace in the fact that more may be coming to a TV screen near you in the near future.
