Ten years ago today, the Shia LaBeouf-starring, D.J. Caruso-helmed Disturbia hit theaters and put a fresh spin on a Hitchcock classic. The story of a teen on house arrest who watches his neighbors through binoculars and soon discovers one of them might be a serial killer is a thrilling, well-paced spin on Rear Window, and certainly earned its place among some of the best voyeuristic films out there.

In honor of the film’s 10th anniversary, we rounded up ten freaky flicks featuring enthusiastic spies. These films feature traditional watchers, high-tech listeners, and straight up creepy peepers. Whether you’re looking to laugh or run shivers down your spine, there’s a film here for everyone. Here are ten great voyeurism flicks available on streaming.

Shia LaBeouf and Carrie-Anne Moss star in this modern spin on Rear Window. Kale (LaBeouf) is placed on house arrest after hitting a teacher, and spends his days watching his neighbors. Tom Hanks, Bruce Dern, Carrie Fisher, and a slew of other big ’80s stars lead this comedy thriller that depicts a high-strung suburbanite (Hanks) who, along with his fellow neighbors, becomes convinced that their neighborhood’s odd new residents are part of a murderous cult. Silly, scary, and strangely relatable, The Burbs is a seriously underrated take on the bizarreness of suburban life.

While shy boy-next-door Ricky Fitts (Wes Bentley) is not necessarily the star of Sam Mendes‘ 1999 masterpiece, his constant camera-in-hand presence turns this tale of a midlife crisis into a partially voyeuristic account of the mundanity of suburban life. Fitts’ camcorder creepiness can be overlooked because of the profound observations he makes about the beauty in a windswept plastic bag.

Perhaps one of Robin Williams‘ zaniest, creepiest roles, the late talent stars as a photo developer who progressively becomes more and more unstable and attacks a middle-class family after becoming obsessed with their photos. This psychological thriller somehow manages to avoid clichés and showcase Williams’ unique talents. While it is a bit of a slow burn, this patient storytelling lends itself to creating a unique stalker film that is bound to chill you to the core.

This 1966 classic from Michelangelo Antonioni depicts a London photographer who might have unwittingly caught a murder on film after taking photos of a mysterious, alluring beauty in a park. The flick’s sexual content and diegetic score made waves upon its release, and is perhaps why it remains such a heavily-referenced film today.

David Lynch‘s sensual take on voyeurism starring Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern is a dark murder mystery that explores the lives of four individuals that inevitably become intertwined in the midst of this investigation. The voyeurism at play here – particularly watching a woman through her closet door – is totally creepy, but this peek into the private moments of individuals is what allows Blue Velvet to hold up years later.
