What To Watch When You’re High

The great thing about pop culture is that it can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. A beloved show can bring people together, whereas a special movie can help you realize a deep truth about yourself. But sometimes, you don’t need anything as powerful as that. Sometime you just need a background watch while you partake in some less-than-nationally-legal substances. When it comes to a good high, pop culture still has your back, and we do too.

It’s hard to decide exactly what you should watch blazed. You don’t want anything too plot intensive in case you lose focus, but you also want something that will take advantage of your heightened appreciation of crazy visuals. No matter what type of high you’re on or want, this list should help you out. Light it up, my friends.

Sink into Home Movies’ squiggly drawn world and get ready to be entertained by one of the greatest voice actors out there, H. Jon Benjamin.

'Broad City'

There are a lot of stoner duos in film and television but few are more fun than Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer. Broad City isn’t overtly insane like Arrested Development or Atlanta. However, it features the perfect blend of funny, relatable lines and just believable enough plots to make for a great chill watch. The best part about this one is that regardless if you’re stoned, drunk, or sober, Broad City holds up 100 percent.

Grab your Shark Repellant Bat Spray and get ready for some nonsense. Before Christopher Nolan turned the Dark Knight into the most angst-ridden superhero out there, Adam West made him unabashedly fun. Do you want some trippy visuals? Buckle up — I’ve got some craziness for you. Directed by the controversial and always-interesting director Gaspar Noe, this psychedelic tour of life and death is told through a young American drug dealer. There’s a scene where the main character watches his own autopsy, a scene that shows sex from inside a vagina, and too many visually insane moments to count. This one is sure to leave you saying WTF in a good way.

Oh hi again Brendon Small! It seems as though the creator of Home Movies and Metalocalypse understands one viewing audience VERY well. If you’re a casual smoker with a low tolerance for guts and gore, do not watch this series by any means. However, if gross out humor is your thing, this Adult Swim series makes for the perfect hilarious companion.

You knew this was going to be on the list. One of the most iconic nature series of all time makes for an incredible watch stoned, so you better believe that its sequel does as well. Narrated by Sir David Attenborough, the beautiful visuals of the series and the beautiful stories in each episode will leave you stunned by the majesty of Mother Nature. But look out. You may feel a bit too sympathetic toward the prey in the more violent scenes.
