‘Planet Earth II’ Will Premiere On BBC America, AMC, and SundanceTV

If you love the planet, animals, or happiness, you’re in luck. Following BBC America’s panel at TCA’s 2017 Winter tour, we have an official release date and schedule for Planet Earth II. The second installment of the critically praised BBC docu-series will premiere on February 18 on BBC America, AMC, and SundanceTV.

Planet Earth II, a second installment of Planet Earth, scales the world, presenting audiences with high definition stories about some of the most remarkable creatures on the planet. Filmed over the course of three years, this season of Planet Earth was compiled from 2,089 shooting days and 117 filming trips, spanning across 40 different countries. The first installment of the series was met with universal critical and mainstream acclaim, and the second installment has already made headlines even though it has yet to premiere in the United States. Planet Earth II already premiered on BBC One in the UK November 6. According to BBC America’s press release, half of the UK population watched the nature docu-series when it first aired.

BBC America’s simulcast will certainly help to make the series more widely available to American audiences. However, according to a representative from BBC America, Planet Earth II will not be available on Sundance Now, SundanceTV’s streaming service. All of you animal-loving cord cutters will have to buddy up to a cable-connected friend if you want to watch lions epically running.

Another change for this new installment is Planet Earth II’s narration. Whereas the original was narrated Sigourney Weaver for American audiences, Sir David Attenborough will be narrating this season. Attenborough’s dryly humorous narration was one of the most delightful parts of the original, which played in the UK with Attenborough. This season is composed of six episodes along with an additional compilation episode, “A World of Wonder.”

Planet Earth II premieres on BBC America, AMC, and SundanceTV on February 18 at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT
