Although HBO has never greenlit a spinoff series before, the success of Game of Thrones has the network still heavily eyeing the possibility. Programming Chief Casey Bloys revealed that HBO is still in “preliminary ongoing talks” with George R.R. Martin to make the series a reality.

According to Entertainment Weekly, Bloys did not provide many specific details except that there are “specific” segments from the backstory that they are “exploring.” Martin had revealed back in September that he had written “thousands of pages” of history to support the current plot line of the hit series. For now, viewers can look forward to the show’s forthcoming second-to-last season premiering next summer.
