From Episode One, Black Mirror has been great at two things: delivering disturbing social satire and casting brilliant actors. The names and faces you see in any given episode range from stalwart stage and television favorites to up-and-coming stars of tomorrow.

Season Three of Black Mirror is no exception to this rule, and it ups the casting ante even more. In addition to giving us the same types of prestigious British actors as past seasons, Netflix has also cast some of the biggest names in film and TV. The result? Each episode of Black Mirror is packed with faces you’ve seen before…even if you can’t always place their name.

Here’s your guide to the major players of Black Mirror Season Three, starting with Episode 3, “Shut Up and Dance.”  Directed by James Watkins (The Woman in Black, Eden Lake) and written by Black Mirror mastermind Charlie Brooker.

Alex Lawther

Who They Are In Black Mirror: Alex Lawther plays Kenny, the episode’s teenage protagonist whose life goes from typical to horrific after a group of unknown hackers record him masturbating. Kenny becomes obsessed with doing anything to prevent that tape from publicly leaking, largely because of the dark secret he’s hiding.

Where You Know Them From: Because Lawther is still relatively young, you likely haven’t seen him around much. He made his first major film debut in The Imitation Game where he played the younger version of Alan Turing. He was also in A Brilliant Young Mind.

2

Jerome Flynn

Who They Are In Black Mirror: Flynn plays Hector, Kenny’s reluctant partner in crime, both literally and figuratively. Hector is another victim of the hackers’ attack and, as we later learn, not the best role model for a teenager. So what dirt do the hackers have on him? The married man was caught cheating on his wife with a prostitute.

Where You Know Them From: Flynn isn’t merely the leading star power for this episode; he’s one of Black Mirror Season Three’s more impressive acting gets. The actor is best known for playing the mercenary Bronn on Game of Thrones. He’s also starred as Detective Bennet Drake on Ripper Street.

3

Paul Bazely

Who They Are In Black Mirror: The hackers lead Kenny out into the woods where he has to face his forced foe. This unnamed man is played by Paul Bazely, and he shares the same dark secret as Kenny. You may not know Bazely before watching the episode, but you likely won’t forget his face afterward.

Where You Know Them From: Bazely has been all over the place, but he’s probably best known for his role as Salaman in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Other than that, he’s been in everything from Doctor Who to The IT Crowd.
