What better way to prepare for the fast-approaching weekend than by indulging in the some of the Internet’s most well-done web content? Take advantage of your lunch break and treat yourself to Afternoon Delight, Decider’s carefully curated picks of the best short-form content available on the world wide web. This week we’re throwing it back to Saturday Night Live cast member Kyle Mooney’s pre-show era YouTube content – specifically, a timely short video entitled “420 Disaster”.
The video, released by Good Neighbor, a sketch group comprised of Mooney, fellow SNL cast member Beck Bennett, Nick Rutherford, and filmmaker (now SNL segment director) Dave McCary, was shot back during the group’s USC days and released on April 20, 2008. It depicts Mooney at a concert being passed a joint and asked repeatedly if he wants to take a hit. Mooney acts enthused about the weed and talks about why his favorite time to smoke is Thanksgiving, but he continually passes the joint back without smoking it. In a ridiculous character voice, Mooney does just about everything he can to avoid having to take a hit, including dancing with the joint and insisting that he’s going to go pack one for his “blaze brother”. As he runs off, however, it becomes clear that he’s not going to help his friend out – he’s gone and snitched him to the cops.
Though short and simple, this video is exemplary of why Mooney is one of the best (and most criminally underutilized) cast members currently on Saturday Night Live, and his early work makes it clear why he was hired by the show. “420 Disaster” is just one of the plethora of hilarious content put out by Mooney and GoodNeighborStuff in his pre-SNL days.
