While yesterday’s Emmy nominations got a lot of things right, there were some glaring omissions in the Outstanding Drama Series category — particularly a nom for Empire, Fox’s biggest hit of the year. While the show picked up nominations for star Taraji P. Henson and two for its costume design, there were notable snubs for the series as a whole — as well as Henson’s co-star Terrence Howard. While Broad City‘s Abbi Jacobson might have had a pretty hilarious response to her show’s Emmy snub (“Who do you have to peg in this town?!!” she tweeted), Empire co-creator Lee Daniels was a little more aggressive in an Instagram video posted yesterday.

Alongside actor Jussie Smollett, who plays Jamal Lyon on Empire, giggled as Daniels issued a surprising response.

Of course, by the end of the night, Daniels had followed up with another video, calling out the haters and saying that he loved the Emmys. “I was just having fun!” he said.
