When Mike Met Saul: ‘Better Call Saul’ Teaser Brings Back Familiar Faces

Welcome, lawbreakers! Your favorite criminal attorney is back (with another familiar face!) in a new teaser for AMC’s Breaking Bad spin-off/prequel, Better Call SaulThough we’ve been given other glimpses of the upcoming show, this one resurrects a Breaking Bad favorite: the always-serious Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks). The clip from the Bob Odenkirk-starring show depicts Saul (then Jimmy McGill) and Mike’s fateful meeting involving a parking ticket scuffle.

Back in 2013, when the spin-off was announced, many were quick to debate the idea. Some claimed that AMC was taking advantage of the Breaking Bad cash cow and hopping on the spin-off bandwagon, while others thought the concept of giving the dirty attorney you love-to-hate his own back story an interesting one. Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer/director Peter Gould have partnered to helm the series, which gives us a little more faith in the outcome of this spin-off. Breaking Bad stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have also expressed interest in appearing on the show, but there has been no confirmation of their presence in the storyline (and chronologically would not make sense, as Saul and Walter do not meet until season two of Breaking Bad). Cranston will, however, return to direct an episode of Better Call Saul.

Odenkirk has also been quick to assure viewers that the show is fresh and funny, and won’t “be Breaking Bad 2.0“. Regardless of any skepticism, and the Internet’s never-ending debates, AMC has pushed forward with production, and the series is scheduled for a two-night premiere in February 2015 — and has already been renewed for a second season.

Check out the teaser below.

Better Call Saul airs in a two-part series premiere on February 8 and 9, 2015, at 10PM on AMC. Subsequent episodes will air Monday nights.
